This is just a guess - but when he was neutered, you left him, something "dire" happened to him, so now he doesn't want you to leave??
In addition to the above good suggestions, I'd crate him and just leave for a minute - then come home and let him out with lots of praise. Do that, lengthening the minutes gone, until he relearns that you WILL return and nothing scary happens?
