New Family Members

We lost our beloved Erkenbrand very unexpectedly in January. Now we've welcomed two lovely new family members from the good folks at Golden Retriever Rescue of Southern Nevada.

Amroth is a 6 year old, well-trained, well-loved and lovable male. His only challenge is that he weighed in at about 114 when he came in to rescue and the vet says we should be shooting for about 85 pounds. We're getting there with long walks, tennis balls and a diet. His is not a sob story, except that he came into rescue because his family grew old and feeble and went into care, where they couldn't take him. They loved him enough to find him a new, active family.

Belle (short for Belladonna Took) is another story. She's only 14 mos. old and nearly died of peritonitis and starvation caused by ingested baby toys. After 3 weeks in a hospital, we're up to "she might survive." At 45 pounds, she needs to gain all the weight that Amroth needs to lose. I wish we could just transfer it while they're sleeping next to each other. GRRSN.org is paying her medical bills and prescription food costs.

  • They are beautiful and look like a lot of fun. I hope they both reach their ideal weight and you all have many years of enjoyment together.

LOL ... it ain't old age that's the problem. It's this thing called "Gravity"!

I was thinking while looking at your photos, in relation to Harlee when it was only me and her. She really started slowing down, especially / more so after her big operation.

When we met Calvin, then decided to initiate the adoption process to bring Calvin home. Once he arrived, it was like she gained, or went back to her old playful self.

I'm sure Armoth misses his previous owners. Now that he has a friend, this may be the best to get his mind off of things, and enjoy his new life! They look like they're already enjoying the heck out of each others company, and will be IMO very close.

Anywhos, just an observation / thought.

PS OK, so I'm corrected, it's Calvin, and not Clavin. As in Smyth, not Smith. Smyth the smoother movers!

Where did that come from? I have no idea!... LOL

PPS We're sending our positive thoughts, and a prayer for Belle's complete, and successful recovery!
  • Thank you for rescuing 2 Goldens! I work with a lot of rescue and I always love when someone adopts and saves their lives.
  • What beautiful dogs!!! Belle looks SO happy - despite everything she went through!!
