Out the window
I was driving southbound on CA101 north of Santa Barbara Friday Jun 28, and thought I saw fragments from a tire blowout. A truck and 5th wheel were ahead of me, and I was prepared to navigate around the tire material.
My girlfriend said, "no, it was a dog falling out of the tow vehicle". Immediately the tow vehicle pulled to the right and slowed substantially, and I drove around it. As I passed, I saw the dog cartwheeling and it eventually got right side up and ran after the rig.
Unfortunately, my dash cam was off.
Since the dog appeared to be running normally, I guess it could have been OK, or in shock.
