Gretchen has had a sebaceous cyst on her left side for the last year now. It has slowly grown to be the size of a golf ball, or even a little larger. Considering her age, or vet has always said to just leave it alone if it is not bothering her. Well, it has not been bothering her, but a couple of days ago a weak spot in the cyst ruptured slightly, and oozed blood and gook. The evidence was on her bed, and on one of the rugs she lays on.We and our vet decided it was time to do something, and that thing was to lance the cyst. She said she got a tremendous amount of "stuff" out of the cyst, then flushed it out with saline solution, bandaged it with a large telfa pad and gauze, and wrapped her around the middle with a couple yards of cling bandage. :p She is on an antibiotic for the next week as well.

Owie! Did the Vet think it can come back - or did that fix it for good?

Been there, done that. Had them open at home, and have opened a few at home, horrible mess, but with antibiotics they heal fast. Usually do not come back in the same place, but it has happened.

We got her last Easter.
Since then we have had an ongoing problem with swelling between her two outside toes on right front paw.
Swelled up, oozed clear...vet probed/nothing..antibiotics for 2 weeks and it went away for 17 weeks.
Then came back...surgery---nothing found/antibiotics...went away
Came back.......more probing/x-rays...antibiotics.....goes away for several weeks after antibiotics are done but then comes back
Surgery again.....found a very small foreign body size of grain of sand???
Antibiotics end come Monday...stitches dissolving slowly

Best wishes for a speedy recovery for Gretchen. I bet she feels better though. That cyst may have been sore or a bit uncomfortable and will be gone now.

Gretchen is also suffering from degenerative myelopathy. The booties serve two important purposes:
They give her rear paws added traction on our hardwood floors. If she did not have them on, she would be falling all the time
DM causes the paws to "knuckle under" when walking. They protect the tops of her paws and toenails from abrasion, especially outside on hard surfaces such as concrete.
