premium dog food

Human food has not caused lose stool in my Collies. As soon as I switch back to Pedigree from the premium food it stops. It sounds like others have had issues with premium food as well. I will just keep them on Pedigree.

It could be you are also feeding too much canned food, the new food is upsetting them for some reason, and the human food...most vets will agree some human food cannot be tolerated by dogs. Some do ok but all dogs will get totally spoiled and not want anything but human food.

If their bowel issues continue it could be they've developed colitis. Our dog got it once when an elderly aunt gave him pork even though we told her it made him sick. He needed to have a course of antibiotics to end it.

So, I'd give our vet a call.

How long did you go through this switch? I found that many times, when changing the type or brand of food, it can take a few days for their digestive system to get used to the change and they'll have loose stool for those days.

My Macy has a tender tummy. I have always fed my Pups Purina but when Macy started throwing up a lot my vet suggested going to a "Grain Free" food. Both of my Pups, Macy 45 pounds and Sandi 12 pounds have been on Nutro Natural Choice Grain-free Lamb and Potato for about a year now. So far we have had not problems and their weight has been stable.

We tried switching to Blue Buffalo with our two Dobermans. They had gas so bad it drove us out of the house....no joke. We went back to Science Diet and the problem went away. We put up with it for about a week hoping it would correct it's self. The side benifit is my wife didn't blame me for a whole week.

I just switched to Blue with 4 dogs, 2 of which have allergies and one with added pancreas problems without a hitch.

WHICH ONE of the Blue are you feeding? There are several.
How much difference is there in the fat and protein between old food and new food?

I switched mine all over to Blue in the yellow bag "Life Protein Formula".....added benefit for me unless it's a coincidence is the older seizure dog has not had a seizure since switching over to Blue, one year and counting. Knock on wood.

When Summer first came to us she came with a grain Free Premiun food. Switched all three doggies to it.......Summer had diarrhea so bad it was bloody at times.
We finally narrowed down to the Gluscomine that was in the food.
Now she eating a grain free with no Gluscomine in it and have had no a problems since, as long as I don't give her any supplements.

Definitely cut down on the amount fed. Also, I know of many people who have had problems with Blue like you've experienced - I've never had good luck with it myself. You might want to try another brand, such as Taste of the Wild or Fromm. Some dogs have a problem with high protein/fat, so you could look for one with a lower percentage of each. I had a boxer who couldn't eat more than 25% protein/15% fat (higher % gave him very loose stools), so he did best on Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream (found at private pet stores and Tractor Supply; some feed stores). Nutrisca is also easier on the tummy for many dogs.

Try transitioning slower. For example, 1/4 new, 3/4 old for a week, then 1/2 new/old for a week, then 3/4 new, 1/4 old for a week, then total new. Some dogs need to transition even slower than this.

The dog will be going through a sort of detox - sort of like a person going from a complete McDonald's diet to a healthy one.
