Over vaccination is a real issue with real effects. Multi disease shots are a bigger stressor to the system than single shots.
I'd just keep with the three year schedule or go to a one shot per year rotation (distemper, parvo, rabies, one each year). I doubt the vet is going to beat you up over this, and if he does, you can always pepper spray him :B
