Question re: 7 in 1 dog vaccine

Our new vet recommends a 7 in 1 vaccine for dogs every two years. Since our longtime vet died suddenly a couple of years ago, and he was very conservative in treatment, I am wondering if that isn't a lot for a dog to deal with at the same time? Are they more apt to have a reaction with the increased number of contents? Also, our old vet repeated shots on a three year schedule. Our dog is a 7 year old min pin without health issues. I know we're not going to find an old school vet like the one we had for 30+ years but I just would appreciate feedback on the subject. Am I worrying for nothing?

  • I'd need a very good explanation of why he wants to give the vaccine every two years rather than every three.

Letpo is a concern around here. My vet gives the 5-way combo shot every third year, and a separate lepto vaccine yearly until the 5-way is due again.
  • This is one your local vet is going to have to have input. The 7 way vaccines contain multiple strains of Lepto along with the standard core vaccines. If you live in an area where lepto is not a threat, probably not needed. We have seen an increasing incidence in our area, but still do not routinely vaccinate but inform and allow choice. Every area is different, so what is relevant elsewhere may not be for you.

We do every three years rather than two.
