Just so you know I only meant to infer those people should have been nipped in the bud when they bought a "breeding pair". Not that you could have done more. :C
Them saying it was a genetic flaw sounds like just a coverup lie. How could any novice person know that for a fact. Not to mention I'm sure they did not have the money for autopsies or dna testing either to prove it. Grrr.
I found people who backyard breed no absolutely nothing about whelping and ensuring that they are nursing properly. They think "the dogs do it in the wild alone, so mine can too". :R
How sad 16 puppies died and it's my guess is they simply were not getting enough nourishment.
There are some females that just don't produce enough milk. And sadly it's usually because the owner is not feeding them enough prior to and during whelping to produce the milk sufficient to feed the pups. It really sounds like they starved to death.
