This statement indicates to me that you're profoundly ignorant of what a good breeder is and does. I've had the great good fortune of knowing a couple of really top notch breeders. Neither of them makes any money at all, nor did they ever intend to. They understand that dog breeding is exactly like RV'ing -- an expensive hobby.
The only "breeders" who go into it with any notion of making money are back yard breeders and puppy millers. And you're right about designer dogs -- by and large the people breeding them are in it for the money. They're the back yard breeders and puppy millers.
Good breeders are "in" their breed for years before they even attempt breeding. They typically have a mentor or two in the breed to guide them. They know full well they aren't going to make money, and that quite to the contrary they need deep pockets to support their hobby.
So you are saying. Someone gave you your dog FREE of charge? You didn't have to buy it?
and you are completely wrong about good breeders not doing it for the money. I know several breeders that love dogs, and still breed them for profit. You seem to live in a dream world. Your designer dogs are BIG money. Take a walk thru a big CG. You will see hundreds of designer dogs. Where do you think they come from???:S
