We were at a sheepdog trial this weekend and several of us were discussing Sam. Those that have LGDs all talk about them sleeping all day.
Based upon our discussions, Go Dogs exposure to LGDs was probably with Pyrenees that were not properly raised with livestock from puppyhood or not working bred LGDs selecting for desired characteristic). (The AKC has done a great job delivering the message that any dog from a working breed has those working instincts and can be trained to do that work.) During our discussion most owners of working LGDs talked about their dogs not roaming and if raised as a puppy with other species would not be aggressive towards poultry or even cats.
The more I learn about working LGDs the more I find them just as amazing as our working Border Collies.
