Our current LGD is not a pet, he lives with the sheep 24/7. In fact we'd prefer he was less attentive to us and the house and more focused on the sheep.
Sam currently patrols about 100acres of old farm of which we own 25acres and lease another 10. The neighbor (who raises cattle) who owns another 25acres of the old farm and also leases about 50acres from the State for grazing will not care if a new LGD patrols the ca. 100acres that Sam currently patrols.
It is amazing to watch LGDs work knowing this was not trained.
