- TugCEExplorerMy Mother had a Mini Doxie. Little Trouble used to jump into the Grandkid's Car Seat as soon as she got in and stayed there for the entire ride.
Whenever she traveled with me she would sleep until I stopped. If I stopped in a rest area for a quick nap she would sit on the console and keep a watch over me until I put me car in gear to leave.
Funny story, I had a Full size Chevy Low Top Conversion Van that had 4 Captains Chairs and a Bench seat all the way in the back. One time I had a Van load for trip to my Brother's home about 2 hours away. My BIL was sitting in the Captain's Chair that was behind the front passenger seat. Well, Little Trouble was driving him nuts by jumping up and down trying to sit in his lap. I finally looked back and told him the he was sitting in HER SEAT! The look on his face was priceless.
When we travel with our Two Girls they ride in the Back seat of me truck. We have a seat cover that hooks to both the Front and Back Headrests, this way there in no way for them to fall off of the seat. Ever since we got this cover, both Girls go to sleep as soon as we start moving and usually not move until we stop. - JframpeyExplorerMy lab sits with her butt in the back seat of our extended cab pickup - rear feet on the floor and front elbows on the armrest between the front captain's chairs. Sits there for hours looking at all of the sites. She's the first to react to traffic hazards - keeps me on my toes!

I use to have a rescue Collie named Sadie. My blazer probably smelled like my other Collies and put him at ease.
I also had to drive 5 hrs to pick up our rescue Collie Sadie...she jumped in our car and never looked back! She knew she had her forever home?????? ?? - GypsySeniorsExplorerI also had to drive 5 hrs to pick up our rescue Collie Sadie...she jumped in our car and never looked back! - sher9570ExplorerLucy our 7 yr old Lab gets in, lays down and sleeps until we pull in someplace for a break or fuel.
Bubba our almost 5 yr old rescued Pom does not miss an inch of road time. He has enjoy traveling since day one, loves people other dogs and now his wonderful life...he seems to actually appreciate it.
On to Csepki, we rescued him last May at 12 years of age, now he's 13. We headed out for Florida in October and this little guy took to traveling like a duck to water. He doesn't miss a thing. We stopped in Myrtle Beach and he loved his walks and the surf. This ole guy just amazes me at how adept he is.
They just know they are on a fun adventure and it's sure a lot more fun than the cages they left behind.
We are grateful for them everyday!

Funny story when I got Mikko from Collie rescue I had to drive 6 hours to pick him up. The rescue group said he would be nervous for the trip home. Mikko was sound asleep in 5 min into the trip and did not wake until I hit some rumble strips at road construction 3 hours later.
They are SOOOO intuitive!! Mikko must have known he was with his forever Family :-) - colliehaulerExplorer IIIFunny story when I got Mikko from Collie rescue I had to drive 6 hours to pick him up. - CampinghossExplorer IILucie our small dog does a little of both. However whenever we hit a bridge she will wake up and look out at the water. She loves water. Lucky the big one sleeps almost 95% of the time.
- lasparrotExplorerMy dogs are a mix: ridgeback is asleep before the key is in the ignition. Standard poodle watches for 10 or 15 minutes then curls up to sleep. Miniature poodle sits on his cushion and watches out the window for hours. I am often amazed at his attention span. They are all individuals!
- Years ago, we had a coach that had a tall window in the hall. It was just the right height for our Scottie Neal to sit at and look out. That's where he would spend a lot of time traveling, watching the scenery. We often joked that when we first got him and he went to Washington, D.C., he would sit up in his crate and look out the car window taking in the sites, while Bailey our other Scottie had been there numerous times and was bored with it!
