Shaved all 3 Collies today

I don't normally shave them but last year they were hot and would develope hot spots. This year I went ahead and shaved them. You can tell they feel better but sure look strange. I will have to keep them out of the sun until they get some hair back.

Anyone else shave their dog's for summer?
  • We give Lucie our small dog a short cut but not shaved for summer. Lucky the rotty/shepard mix has a dense undercoat so we give him a trim but not shaved. Our groomer does not recommend shaving either one due to sunburn.
  • Our Border Collie/Lab turns 15 this year.

She has the LONG overcoat with THICK DENSE undercoat.

We 'TRIM' her short every year since a puppy.....after the first time that I 'shaved' her and she got sunburn.

Don't forget to provide a blanket at night if temps still get cool
  • I have a Collie...my second... I was told by our groomer to never shave them...their skin needs some protection which shaving does not provide...my groomer does give my Sadie a puppy cut which is comfortable for her but longer than being shaved...she gets the cut in June and by Sept. Her coat has grown in beautifully.
