Sunday trip to vet (final update 8/22/14)

When I got up this morning the first thing I seen was Lassie with a 3" gash on her snout. I called the vet and he was already at the clinic for another emergency. I took her in and he put in 8 stiches.

I went out and looked and they way the fence is made there are no barbs on top or bottom. The fence has round loops top and bottom. Not sure how Lassie cut her snout, and she is not talking.

I can sort of visualize it- each loop has an end, and I'd wager she pushed her nose through as far as it would go, and when she pulled it back she got caught by one of those ends.

Main thing is, Lassie may know- let's hope she herself remembers, and avoids doing the same thing again!

  • Ouch!!!!

"Bottom of chain link fence": when we bought our current house, I noticed that the neighbor's CL fence was installed upside-down, with those deadly barbs at the TOP. It was kind of unfriendly, I thought, although it wasn't the existing neighbor who had installed it. So imagine my horror to look up one day just in time to see Ike, my Aussie, jump OVER the 4' fence to play with Rocky, the neighbor's malamute. EEEKS! Just one slip and he could have been eviscerated.... I ran out with a big pair of Vice-Grips and started bending over the barbs. The neighbor saw me, asked what I was doing, and when I told him what had happened, he grabbed his own Vice-grips and started at the opposite end to meet me in the middle!
  • I have seen a lot of "bottom of chain link fence" lacerations :B. Almost all have been on a front leg/foot but have seen a few on muzzle.

Fun Sunday... Hope Lassie heals fast.

    Yikes!

What had she been stickin' her nose into where (presumably) she didn't belong????
Not sure, I thought it might be the bottom of the chain link fence.
