I am not partial to either cats or dogs, we have both, and a parrot too (who is by far the smartest pet), it is just that I recognize that each species has unique qualities. As someone who loves animals, I am going to stand up for them when someone wrongly besmirches an entire species.

This thread is starting to sound like Chevy vs Ford. There is no "right" answer. Each person is allowed to have personal preferences.
I have had cats, birds, rabbits,dogs, and a raccoon once. Of all, I prefer dogs, for many reasons. That is just my personal preference.
