I have noticed also that both dogs and cats will drink form the toilet. Maybe they are not so different after all!
We quit using those blue drop-in-the-tank pellets with bleach stuff years years ago when we realized the cat drank from the bowl. Ever since, we take extra precautions to keep all the toilets in the house (and camper) extra clean and if we use chemicals they are flushed right away. Both our current cats drink from the bowl. But our dachshund is just too short (well, when he's standing on all 4 legs he is) to reach it. But in the past, we've had taller dogs that used it as their main watering source!
