Travelling with a cat?

How many of you travel with a cat and what do you do with your cat when travelling?

We bring all 4 of them with us. They are not allowed out of the RV but have a Catio hanging on the side where they can sit or sleep in the fresh air when we're parked. They enter and leave through a window. When on the road they ride in large cages in the tow vehicle when we haul the TT and ride with us loose when we use the Class-C.

You can leave the vents open so air flows through and heat doesn't build up to deadly levels.

Opie, your description sounds like our Nellie. She will not go potty outside. If she's outside on her leash, she meows at the door to be let in, goes potty, then sits at the door and meows to go out again. She loves being out in the evening when it's getting dark (right now we're in a city campground with no wild animals about) and she'll sit out there for hours. She also insists on coming with me in the a.m. when I take our dog for a walk. I usually just lock her leash to the longest length then she just drags it along. If we're going somewhere new, I'll pick it up and she walks just like a dog...except she has to stop every 3rd or 4th step to look around. She likes to keep our camper in view though so sometimes we leave skid marks in the sandy gravel here where I have to encourage her to continue with the dog and me.

She travels in the pickup when we're on the road, along with the parrot and the dog, and they stay in there until we're set up. She always has her harness and leash on when we're traveling.

Our cat rides free in the 5th wheel. It's a rough ride and he has a few hiding places that he stays at but he will use the litter box going down the road. I know it's stressful but it is better for him then riding in the truck. He has survived a trip across the globe that lasted 30 hours and I don't want to keep him in the crate unless I have to. Even lose in the truck he is not happy. This is our first year camping so I don't know what we are going to do in hot weather. I trying to find a way to run the ac going down the road.

I wanted to take our 3 yo but he refuses a collar,let alone a vest. Complete inside cat,very long hair Himalayan.. Our friend from 3 doors down comes in 2/3 times a day lets him to the porch at night and to the house for heat of day. I feel so guilty because we take new puppy with. She makes sure he has fresh water and food. She also brushes him almost every day. Better than I do.

Our cat was raised to think he was a dog. He would go for walks on a leash, sit around the campfire in his own chair and hunt grasshoppers when tied up near us.
He thought the only place he could go was in the litter box in the trailer.
Just before bedtime he would go to the door and beg to go out for a walk. When we approached the door he would go sit on his leash so we would clip it on to his collar.
He was three years old when we got him and had never been on a leash before that.

Our cat, Menaux travels with us in the truck and loves it. He lays on the dash upside down to get a little sun on his belly. Sometimes sleeps on the center consol or on the back seat. He is perfectly at home in the truck or the trailer. He will even eat on the road if we have a sandwich while traveling. The wife will feed him a little dry food from her hand. He has been traveling with us since he was about 5 weeks old, when we bought him down in Cajun country. Menaux is Cajun french for cat hence the name. Couldnt believe I let my wife talk me into buying a cat. Our kids said Why buy a cat. All you have to do is put out some food and you will get one.

Great traveling companion and doesnt bark disturbing the neighbors.

What are the "windbreaks?" We travel with 4 cats that are indoors only. We would never let them out of the RV in a CG. Too many cats were left behind when people leave and the cat wasn't there but off somewhere on a walkabout. Or the cat was frightened off by something and never returned to their owner's RV. We don't leave them out where we live either. They have a catio on the side deck to enjoy the sun and fresh air safely.

You can get a cat walking jacket ( google that) and use a leash. Or board the cat.....

Sounds like our old gal we had. Nothing pleased her more than to crawl into the bed, wedge up against us and insist on a belly rub which we had to oblige or she would not let us sleep. We miss her since she died at the ripe old age of 22.
