We have 2 brothers...tuxedos that are 7 1/2 yrs old. They have traveled with us since they were babies. We have a 5th wheel. They ride in the 5th wheel. They know when they hear certain sounds (or activity) of us pulling up camp, they crawl up into our bed and under the covers. We don't put them in cages....that freaks them out. We're very careful opening the doors, etc. When we stop for a potty break or lunch on the road, they don't come out from under the covers. They will stay there until they hear the awning being opened. We have a screen room that hangs on the awning. When we're stopped for more than 3 days, that gets put on and they can go out the window and sit outside. I tried the leash and halter idea. Dasher wanted to go to places I couldn't get into (deep ditches, etc) and Donner would lay down and not move. This works for us. Our rig is 26 foot long.....if we had a bigger rig, they'd be happier (hopefully in the near future!)
Why do we travel with cats? They don't bark....... and we travel for months at a time....can't afford to hire someone to come in, besides that freaks them out, too. The last time we hired a woman for 1 1/2 weeks, the house was a mess. They got into cupboards and Cream of Wheat in the wood floor is hard to get up!!!!!!!
