Turn for the worse

As you know, Buddy Blue was diagnosed with metastatic CA in Sept. We kept him comfortable with pain meds and promised if it got worse, we would end his suffering.

Suddenly, his rt jowl thickened even worse than before and he was drooling thick mucus and had it in his eyes as well. He couldn't drink or eat without difficulty.

After discussion with the vet, we decided we could no longer be selfish. We had to let him go. It was so hard. I cannot believe that I could cry so much. DH is devastated. To make it easier on him, I went alone. They were inseparable.

The vet was so compassionate and didn't hurry me. She sat on the floor with me for an hour while I held him and sobbed. I told her funny stories about his life and am still tearing up as I write this.

He was a darling who was our best friend. He's at peace now, but I miss him so. Duncan still wanders the house looking for him and checks the yard to see if he's returned. It's heartbreaking. He's never been alone...ever. Any suggestions?

Thanks for listening to me. I know you all understand how I feel. Give your babies a hug and kiss in memory of Buddy Blue, the best friend ever.

Here is a picture when he was 2 in Germany.
  • Really tough time for everyone, sorry you have to go through it but really respect your decision and timing.

Give Duncan special attention hugs. Make sure he keeps active, go for walks and play time (it will help all of you). If things are not getting better in a few days, contact your vet and ask about an anti-depressant for him. Sometimes it eases the grief and speeds the recovery in individuals that have a sensitive nature.

  • I am so very sorry for your loss. It will hurt for awhile, but eventually you will be able to reminisce over the good times with Buddy Blue with only happiness and no pain. He no longer feels any discomfort, but is playing like a puppy over the Rainbow Bridge.
  • Tearing up with you. I'm sorry for your loss. Buddy will be in your hearts forever.

When you're ready, I think Buddy and Duncan both would appreciate you giving another dog a chance at the great life you give to them. The Humane Society has some affectionate rescues as well as local animal shelters.
  • I'm so truly sorry for your loss. I unfortunately know your pain all too well.
  • Been there and done that as they say. Very sorry for your loss. Cuts deep. After about a year we got another dog and she is great. So give it time and recall the good. Best wish's
