Beth and Joe - sounds like Jackson has a wonderful family! One of the benefits of adopting an older dog is they usually are house-trained. All ours have been rescues including the little Maltese we had. Our Maggie, a black Lab, doesn't like crates and she too greets us at the door and she too makes herself at home on the bed or sofa's while we're gone. She loves camping, so much that while our fiver was in the shop for about a month, she nearly tore the small dog door off trying to get in, so we kept her inside. Then when we brought the fiver home, she was ok. She sleeps under it during the day when we are at work! Silly dog. I know it wasn't because of the shade because we've got shade all around.
