Update. Just purchased 2 BM tix for wife and i for $390 each. Pretty cheap for an 8 day event. We have been wanting to go and this is the year! Any suggestions for 8 days of boondocking? Fortunately, the honey wagon will come around 3 times during our stay. Really hope they have potable water.

If you want something a little different check out the Electric Forest
Festival in Rothbury, MI. Plenty of weirdness, lots of music. No huge fire but the light display at night is incredible. No dust but it has been known to rain. Only about 1/2 the price of BM and lasts 8 days.

Went to BM in 2000 with my gf (wife now) and both of us agreed it was a absolute waste of energy and time. We found it actually sad, depressing, and disgusting at times and left after two nights. It's mostly people from the Bay Area/SF/South Bay, LA, SD, and a mix of other cities. If you want to see people trying way too hard to be cool and taking nonsense about some spiritual connection to people, have at it. There is no point to the whole event..none and it's only gotten worse over the years. Our takeaway was that it was depressing, dirty, way too many drugs, children exposed to seeing sex acts that were ugly, too many deranged people, and the whole thing is lacking fun. Yes, a few funny moments or people, but overall boring.

My sister in law is a Shaman she says and goes to it. She believes she can enter your body. I told her go ahead, when you do, I'll kill us both.

I guess it depends on how freaky you are comfortable with. I tend to draw the line at the public orgies. Actually, I draw the line a little before that..:)

This is one event people love to talk about even if they have never been there. I must know 100 people that have said they will go there "some day."
Even more who "would never go." That does not stop the conversation at all. Some of the best art I have ever seen.

Based on what I know of Burning Man, I think for the most part it's a freak fest. I doubt I'll be attending any time soon.
