- WanderlostNomad IIOld Yeller. Saw it once as a child and have never watched it since. Just can't handle a hero dog's death by rabies/gunshot.
Big Jake. Love everything about that movie except Dog's death. I close my eyes and plug my ears for about a minute as that scene arrives.
True Grit (either one). Riding Little Blackie until he collapses and dies was necessary to the storyline, but it's so danged hard to watch.
WLToo can't handle the various animal rescue/cops shows, but I like seeing abusers go down and animals get rescued. - CA_POPPYExplorerI remember seeing Bambi as a child and hearing one little boy in the audience scream "NO!" when Bambi's mom dies. Cowboy and Indian movies traumatized me, too. I couldn't even read Grimm's Fairy Tales because some of them gave me nightmares. I suspect today's kids are tougher because they are exposed to so much on TV from a very early age.
- DutchmenSportExplorerHachiku:a dog's tale. Absolutely the most tear jerker in history. Based on a true story too. That what makes it even more sad.

I don't like Youtube videos of dogs being tortured in the Middle East. I have no Idea why they show them, so sick.
Oh my - I didn't know that existed; but I guess you could probably find ANY sick thing on the internet if you looked for it??
And in all fairness, there's also a lot of stuff that looks innocent on TV, that isn't. I'm thinking of the beautiful high-stepping show horses, and what gets done to them to get that high head and tail carriage, or that big long stride. I tend to not watch horse shows, unless it's something like dressage, where a horse who's "sour" gets penalized.
Oh - and let's not forget the really OLD westerns where horse falls were brought about by trip wires, not a cue from the rider.... - HappytravelerExplorerI don't like Youtube videos of dogs being tortured in the Middle East. I have no Idea why they show them, so sick.
- toedtoesExplorer IIII have issues with most animal movies. If they're not killing off the animal to "teach kids about death", then they're feeding cats milk and showing the hero dog with its puppies at the end of the movie. Drives me insane!
Cartoon-wise, Balto is the best. Even my shepherd-lab and Akita watched it all the way through (OK, as soon as Balto started getting hugged by the little girl, the Akita got up off the couch and left...).
The first K-9 with Jim Belushi was good. The second one ended with the litter of puppies, but the first one was well done. After that, Belushi actually became enamoured with shepherd.
Hatchi with Richard Gere was good. They look a lot of liberties with the true story, but they did well with the dog.
I find that's the hardest part - movies and TV tend to make caricatures of the animals. Few let the animals be true to their realities.
Oh, the first Incredible Journey is wonderful. The remakes don't hold a candle to it. - NCWriterExplorerMarley & Me. Saw it once, great moments, but I can't watch it again.

I read there is a website that tells you which movies to avoid that
have animal deaths in them. I did a search and this is what I came up with. I am not sure how up-to-date it is.
Does the Dog Die?
Thanks for that info. Never thought of searching for that.

Does the Dog Die?
This is awesome!!
I also won't re-see movies where there is wanton death of humans - "Schindler's List" and "Amistad" come to mind. But seeing an animal die just triggers all those painful feelings from losing my own pets.....
