When Cat Pees Everywhere

I wasn't in on the now closed discussion about a cat inappropriately peeing everywhere and the OP having a day care business, but I did want to add one thing.

Anytime you have a cat peeing in the wrong place, you need to get rid of the odor, not merely because it smells bad to humans, but because if the residual is still where the cat can smell it (even when we cannot), the cat will continue to pee there.

Use a good quality black light (not just a purple light bulb), turn out the lights, and look with the black light to find all the places he peed. It will glow in the black light.

Now treat it with a cleaner that neutralizes whatever causes the odor. I swear by Wee Cleaner. I've even used it outside to battle the ongoing territorial dispute between my neutered toms and the unaltered guys next door, with quite a lot of success.

When Spotacus was having his emotional meltdown and peeing all over the place, we used Feliway and Wee Cleaner to stop it. Worked.

We also use Wee Cleaner to clean the litter boxes, after we noticed Spot getting picky about the box. That worked, too.

Hope this helps.

  • Why is it that every time someone posts about this issue, at least one person has to chime in with the "get rid of the cat"?

Listen up- when a person takes an animal into their home as a pet, they are making a pact that they will take care of that animal, not just dump that animal if things get rough. A great deal of the time, when a cat is doing this, there is an underlying medical issue which should be cleared up. Often times, people are not providing something that the animal needs, such as access to enough litter boxes, or CLEAN litter boxes, or attention even. If the marking is emotional, change will trigger these issues, but small corrections, medication and/or pheremone therapies are successful.

Every pet owner is aware of the option that they can take their pet, this animal which is PART OF THEIR FAMILY, TO WHICH THEY MADE A TACIT PROMISE TO TAKE CARE OF, to a shelter, or dump it on someone else or the street, or to the vet to be "euthanizied". We all know about that. Some people are asking for options which are different from going immediately to what should be the last, worst case, option.

So please, be constructive and helpful.

I would get rid of the cat !!

I would really like too......but they are not my cats!
  • Bye bye cat. Cats urinating can cause amazing damage. Saw a subfloor have to be torn out! Plus two+ rooms of carpet, baseboard etc.
  • I'll vouch for how effective a black light is! It works best in a very dark environment, but ratted out where my daughter's dog had been marking when he visited here. I'd mark the spot with a sprinkle of baking soda so I could findit with the lights on.
  • WLToo occasionally sprinkles around our toilet. I clean it up with the Wee Cleaner and it works great.

Neither toilet in this unique fixer upper have any odor problems, partly because I clean around them with the Wee Cleaner, then follow up with a good mopping with our Shark Steam mop (I use distilled water with vinegar).
  • Great information!

Even if you don't have a cat that "pees everywhere", it seems like every pet will pee SOMEWHERE it shouldn't...that looks like a great product, especially since it's for urine from all kinds of animals- even human!
