cat peeing everywhere - long

We took in a stray about 3 mos ago. The vet was guessing that he was about 8 mos at the time. We had him neutered right away and haven't had any issues with spraying or peeing. He's been a really good cat.

Last month my sil brought home an unneutered stray that jumped in his car and after two days we started finding pee everywhere so the cat found a new home. Everything was fine once again.

I operate a home daycare and a tiny infant started on Monday. She's a good baby and rarely fusses. The cat jumped in the crib twice on Monday and I scolded him both times.

Now, he is peeing everywhere. Tues and Wed he peed on my bed. Yesterday he peed in the pack and play I use for another child. He peed on the floor leading into the playroom. This morning he peed in a toy bucket.

I can't afford to let the baby go, but I don't want to get rid of the cat either as he is normally a good cat.

Any suggestions?

    OK, I think we get the picture, opinions and suggestions.

    If I walked into a home to drop off my baby- I had better NOT smell: cat pee, cigarettes, marijuana, and general funk.
    I had better NOT see: cats, dogs, iguanas, boa constrictors, and shady-looking visitors.
    The house should be spotless and safe. The caregiver should be attentive and capable.
    Nothing else is acceptable.

    My DW decided to get a small male shelter cat who is now six months old to keep our 4 year old female cat company. Didn't/won't work as the female is intolerable of him. He is docil and wants to play while she hisses and swats him every chance she gets.. Strange, but she also brings him lizards to play with. LOL

    When we got our oldest cat he had a problem adjusting to the new surroundings and was peeing on the bed & other places.
    We confined him to the bathroom for a couple weeks with his litter box. He wasn't too happy about it but it's been nine years with no problems.


    IF the dog lifted his leg on paying customers. He's be gone too. and to be blunt, and honest. A dog has no place in a day care center either

    Get thee (and thy cat) to a vet for a urinalysis.

    If no issues, then we can talk behavior. But first find out. UTIs, crystals... If he is in pain, he'll keep trying new places because he associates the others with pain.

    My daughters cats only go in inappropriate places when they have an UTI. Take him to a vet..... on the other hand when my son was single, his cat got upset when a stranger came to the house the "first" visit. After that he knew them and didn't do it. Now with a wife, kids, friends of all in and out constantly, the cat no longer reacts to strangers like that. We think she was jealous that my son spent time with other people and not just her.

    Is there some reason to suppose that if a dog was randomly pissing where someone was conducting a pay-me-to-take-care-of-your-kids operation, the answers would be any different?

    Lots of kids get raised in houses with cats - some have probably even peed in on the furniture.

    When we got our oldest cat he had a problem adjusting to the new surroundings and was peeing on the bed & other places.
    We confined him to the bathroom for a couple weeks with his litter box. He wasn't too happy about it but it's been nine years with no problems.

    The only way to effectively eliminate cat issues is to eliminate the source.

    You need to reassess your priorities. Business, or cat. As you are thinking about it. Consider. Can the cat pay your bills? If the answer is yes, keep the cat, and close the business. If the answer is no. Get rid of the cat.


    Exactly! It should not even be a second thought. Nasty indeed. :S
