110 and 119 at the same time

Goood morning all. I currently have an old Terk 18" dish that shows as a Dish 500. It has outlets marked 110 and 119 but is a single head LNB. What do I need so that I can receive 110 and 119 at the same time.

On the road in Lakeview Or.

Thank You

Ray

  • Thanks to all for the input. This is our first trip out since we lost All American Direct. I would hit 119 and everything was there. Having trouble with the local channel thing and having to call Dish. From my post last week it appears many times the locals show up on 110 while most of the stuff I watch are on 119. Just trying to come up with an economical way to catch both birds without manually moving the sat from right to left.

Again thanks for all the help.

There are 3 basic levels of DISH Antennas
300 is a SOLO (one lens) it can see 110, OR 119 or.. any satellite in the proper frequency band but only ONE of them

A 500 has one head, but it has two lenses (Eyes if you like or Hockey pucks) it is an OVAL dish, not a round, it has 3 adjustments, Azimuth (Direction) Elevation and Skew (Tilt) and it can see 110 and 119 at the same time.. NOTE that both sats are delivered to both ports in normal use, 110/119 only applies with some multi-receiver switches. (Which you do not need on a motor home)

The DISH 1000, is a triple (3 sats at a time, 3 hockey pucks) but you do not need that one.

    Does this help?
  • You need an antenna with 2 LNB's (each with 2 outputs) to receive the signal from 2 different satellites. You need a triple LNB to receive the signal from 3 satellites (110, 119, 129). There is no exception to this rule. If you have just a standard 18" round antenna with 1 LNB you cannot receive 2 satellites. If you have a dome style antenna you cannot receive 2 satellites at the same time.
If you are setting a dish up on a tripod that you manually point then you just need to get an updated antenna. If you truly have a Dish 500 antenna (2 separate LNB's) then you will need to add an SW21 switch at the antenna and then the coax outputs from the SW 21 runs to the receiver and allow you to switch between the 2 satellites. If you want to run 2 different receivers then both LNB's must have dual outputs and you would install and SW42 (or 2 SW 21's).

Please excuse but satellite terminology is not my forte. The arm to the lnb is about 2' wide but it has two outlets and one days 110 and the other says 119. Could those hook to a diplexer? and then I could receive both satellites at once.

No. With twin lnbs the receiver will chose which one it needs for the channel selected. If you plan on using two receivers then you will only get one sat at a time. Again if you want to use two receivers, I believe the best way is to get a Dish Pro twin lnb and connect that to a Stacker switch. The output side of the stacker will allow up to four receivers to see both sats at the same time. I'm not sure if there is a limitation on what receivers will work.

  • Does it have just one coax connection and one lnb, about 3+- inches wide it's for one sat. The lnb for the 500's had one coax also and was about 6 or 7 inches wide and it will receive the 2 sats when setup right.
  • Usually coax from each outlet will terminate at a switch (SW-21 is one model dish uses). This switch has a single outlet for the coax to run to your receiver box.

The receiver and switch work together to pull the signal from the 110 or 119 satellite as needed.
