$130.00 For 4GM RAM?

That's what CRUCIAL quoted me for a pair of 2GB chips for that 8 -year old Gateway laptop. Without looking too hard I found the same number on an eBay site who confirmed it's the correct RAM for that computer.

Thirty three dollars free shipping no tax for both chips. I've got to do something quick tomorrow as a driver is going 750 miles north next Friday and will go to my PO Box the following Tuesday. If I squeeze for the Crucial RAM- no hard drive limited now to 70+ GB disk.

Doesn't Crucial still have their online tool that identifies the correct RAM needed? They used to have one!

    Yes, its on their homepage.
  • I don't know what memory your Gateway laptop needs. As a similar example using my 8 year old Dell laptop, most 4 gB choices from Newegg are between $40 and $60. This is for two 2 gB modules. Newegg has a memory finder that you can plug your make/model into.

  • The $130. for 2-2GB modules doesn't sound right. Even if discontinued.

Post the exact model number of the Gateway.
This is what I was afraid of.
It could be that the memory for that thing has become insanely expensive.

    But *post* the model.
  • In general, you'll pay the most buying direct from a memory(module) manufacturer. I tend to only use their online PC/Mac memory guide, then buy from Newegg, or Microcenter if they have it in stock.

What Gateway laptop model do you have?
