Since they rarely fail, my guess is there isn't much of a market for them. That typically means, you pay a premium for them to sit on stock for months or even years and results in high prices.
Might try a computer shop (as in a guy who works on computers and electronics. Might be a used one but as long as it's in decent shape, it shouldn't matter.
Is it possible to repair? If there is there even a couple inches of solid wire sticking out of the plug end?
Might try a home depot (or similar in mexico), they may have the plug end that you can wire up.
