211 dish reciever
Some one told me that you can make the 211 a dvr by adding a storage device what do you need.

Here are the requirements for the ViP211K receiver:
Choosing a compatible external hard drive:
• The hard drive must have a USB 2.0 connection.
• The capacity of the hard drive should be between 40GB and 750GB.
• Using a hard drive with an external power supply is recommended. External hard
drives powered by the USB cable may not function properly with your receiver.
• Do-it-yourself kits and expandable racks may not be compatible.
• Only hard drives that are single-disk units are supported.
• Dedicate the hard drive for use only with the receiver; do not use the drive for other purposes, such as storing computer files.
If you have the newer ViP211Z you need to check the USB connection, it may require the newer 3.0 USB connection. Also it may allow a larger hard drive. As you can see above the 211K can only deal with a hard drive from 40GB to 750GB. As others noted that once you have it connected just call Dish and tell them you need to have the DVR option turned on for the 211 and it was $40 when I did it a few months ago. HTH
