39 dollar install??

I want to get a auxiliary fuel tank in the bed of my truck before my next big trip. To my happiness I received a Camping World sale flyer from my local store. It had listed fuel tanks just like what I want with 39 dollar install. I called them and was told they would not install, if I wanted to they would order it and I could do it myself or take it somewhere else. If I go somewhere else to install I will buy the tank there.
  • The Columbia Mo store installed my JT Stabilizers for $39! It took them a he k of a lot more time than I think they expected including the need to weld! So far I checked them once and they are working. I was also hesitant but in my case I got that price. In this case KUDOS to Camping World.

I am also having them install a second air conditioner ( Atwood Air Command- Ductless) and am assuming I will get the $39 install again. Only sore point with this one and perhaps to the point that they are making it up elsewhere is that they are charging me half the shipping cost due to it being a "special order" item. It is on their on line web site and it does irritate me that I have to pay shipping on a piece of equipment that will be coming on a truck I'm sure containing other items that the store orders...I will keep you all updated.

That $39 install has been a sore point here several times. It seems they keep adding things on to that come-on price until it's several times that number.
At least in your case they didn't commit a fraud on you. But pretty low that they would offer the service and not even attempt it.

I got a big CW catalog today with the same BS offer on the back.

    What's your problem?

"What's my problem"??? What, are we on the playground and your 8 years old?

    iawoody2,

What is the whole story? Were going to purchase the tank from CW or somewhere else and then expect CW to install for the same price. IMWTK.

The whole story is as I already said in original post. I would have bought at CW and had them installed. Now I will just forget them and go elsewhere. They stated that they don't know how to install one, have never done one.

If they don't have anyone at the store qualified to install the tank then they are right to refuse to do the work. It's a insurance issue then! Every store is not going to have people qualified to do everything. They were honest and told you instead of trying to and making a mess. Good for the service manager to know there limits but they could have check around with the other stores to find if they had someone qualified!

Perhaps the CW store in question by the OP should be mentioned. My understanding before with the $39 install was on stuff they sold in the store and not online. Maybe that has changed and I think Marcus will honor it for you.

The sale flyer I received was for the store 20 miles away and was for in store items, or ordered. Maybe they need to do like some other stores, like Lowes, advertise some items not available in some stores.

I'd rather have them not install it for you then you go down the road in a big flame ball.
  • I doubt it has anything to do with the $39 installation.

They probably just don't install fuel tanks. Many shops won't install or work on fuel tanks due to lack of skills and/or insurance regulations.
  • If I have garnered any thing from these posts it is entirely up the the service dept if they will install the auxiliary tank in the bed and hook it up to the diesel fuel tank neck???
  • I know rv mechanics are supposed to be certified, but I think I would rather have a stealership do work to the gas tank.
  • Only True Mosnowman,

Fight them on the shipping charge.

Pretty sure I saw that on-line orders over 99.00 you got free shipping if you were a GS member. Have it shipped to the store and then have them install the air conditioner. You should be able to bargain with them...

    Good Luck!
  • Unfortunately they charge shipping for large or heavy items as is stated on their web site.
