Don't have a Hopper, but it should be no different than the VIP612 DVR. You will lose your local programs since they are on a spot beam. Everything else will stay the same.
If you are staying in one area for a while you can call Dish and change your SERVICE location. That will get you the locals where you are located. Only ill effect will be loss of any home location sports channels. For example we get CSN (Chicago Sports Net). When we travel we lose the locals but keep CSN. When we change our location we lose CSN.
