PDANet/FoxFi Trouble Shooting Tips:

If FoxFi ever works for you before and now giving you problem, the first thing you should try is to reboot your phone and rename the hotspot before activating FoxFi.
After updating PdaNet+, if computer shows a red "x" on hotspot or you get error "Settings saved on this computer for the network do not match", just rename the hotspot on the phone side and activate FoxFi again to solve this issue. This is because the new version of FoxFi uses WPA2 instead of WPA and the computer side has a bad entry cached.
If you have a Samsung phone, occasionally your computer may fail to get an IP address (shows Limited Connectivity), if that happens try to turn on WiFi on the phone first and make sure it is disconnected from any existing WiFi network/router. Then turn on FoxFi and see if it fixes the issue.
WiFi mode is tested on non-rooted phones. If your phone has a rooted ROM it may or may not work.
When WiFi hotspot is activated you may also see a hotspot notification of the built-in WiFi hotspot feature. Please ignore it. As long as you do not sign up for a tether plan you won't be charged.
If you enter or change the hotspot password, make sure you rename the hotspot also before activating.
Sometimes Windows need a "repair" on the WiFi menu to get a correct IP address.
If your carrier blocks your tether usage in WiFi mode, try to use USB mode instead in PdaNet+ and set Hide Tether Usage to Level I.

Lots of updates on PDAnet. It is now owned by Foxfi. As a suggestion, go to Foxfi in the Google Play Store and look at the "overview" and "what's new" and the complete, correct explanation is right there. Don't forget to upgrade and follow the instructions. You can also get the information at PDANet+

FoxFi, PDANet+, TreveMod are all working on the S3 with JB 4.1.2 (MB1). That may not be true tomorrow for those taking the current OTA (MD3?)update being pushed now. Even so, the devs will fix what got busted in few days. I won't take the update until I know its root-able and the hotspot works. Right now it seems rooted phones can take it and preserve root if they take steps to do so. The cat and mouse game continues.

I used to use PDA.net on my Tmobile MyTouch 4G. When I went to the Samsung Galaxy S3, someone figured out how to close the loop and PDA.net wouldn't work. I pay the $5 for hotspot access now and life is indeed simpler.

Verizon and sprint can roam on the others network
This is usually voice only and maybe txt
But not for internet data

who is your phone company ?
where you on extended/roaming network ?
there could be a variety of reasons

Verizon is our cell carrier. We have unlimited data. Hmmm, I have never noticed anything with the roaming or extended network. It worked as usual in Vegas though. Been in Tahoe and it worked. We live in Los Angeles, that's where my carrier is. Don't have a clue?? Maybe it was the roaming thing?? :h

I wonder if there was a Verizon or AT&T provider nearby. I do know AT&T has its own wireless networks in Starbucks which might have a gateway. For me, the phone hops on and works without issue, but others have to go through the steps of registering and paying to use Wi-Fi in some places.
