A/C cycles on-TV goes off

Hey Guys
I have some friends gate guarding in South Texas and are operating their 5th wheel on a generator since they're out in the boonies. They have no wi-fi so here I am at their service. They are having a new problem since getting there. They say that every time the A/C cycles on the TV goes out and has to reboot. They have switched generators and the problem remains. I should tell you they are operating the TV through a TailGater for their satellite signal. Any ideas???
  • Similar issue on past RV and tried the hard start capacitor without enough help in my condition. I will say that after the hard start capacitor I did have a few times the TV did not cut off but still cut off more than stayed on.

I will second the voltage drop when the generator kicks in.

One possible solution.. A small 300 or 600 watt TRUE SINE WAVE inverter, Wire it so it provides power to the Dishnetwork receiver (Check the ID plate on the receiver that will tell you how much power. Whatever it says, Double it when you buy the inverter,, IE if it says 180 watts, go for 360 or more)

Run that off the 12 volt and his problems should go away.

NOTE this needs to be a "Stand alone" inverter, not an inline

And he needs at least tx the inverter's needs in converter as well

(If the Receiver draws 200 watts. That's 20 amps, so he needs at least 40 amps of converter)

the UPS is good and simpler, but will likely cost more
    best buy might have one,

  • power the TV and sat receiver from a small independent inverter
which will be attached to their batteries
A/c voltage drop out will not affect the inverter,
  • I wonder whether using a hard start capacitor might help mitigate the inital AC surge and resolve your problem - cheaper than new generator.

Probably needs a bigger generator to overcome the big VOLTAGE DROP when the air Conditioner kicks in.

If you was monitoring the 120VAC LINE with an AC VOLTMETER you will probably see it really drop down in AC VOLTAGE when the Air Conditioner kicks on and off... Maybe the extension cord/adapter setup from the generator to the trailer is too small for the load as well...

You might get better 120VAC regulation running the TV stuff from an 400WATT PSW inverter direct connected to the trailer battery system which should run a pretty steady source of 120VAC not being effected by air conditioner kicking on and off...

    just some thoughts...
