Accuracy of various weather apps

This will be interesting to see what results others have?

I like the Windfinder site for weather forecasts. It is marine/sailing related, but seems to offer more detailed information than most.

Click on the "link", select a "location", and then on "forecast".

There are about several (six?) common weather models in use by various firms/agencies/etc world wide today. I know that the Weather Channel and NOAA use a different model.

Each and every one gives (at least) slightly different results then the others. All of them are reasonably accurate in the short term, up to say 36 hours. The model with a great "long range" reputation right now is the one done by the EU(Europe) weather people. It nailed the predictions of Sandy days before any model used by firms in the US did.

I am unaware of any North American weather firm/agency that uses the European model.

Personally the model I have found to be the best for me is the one NOAA uses, this is because they give the forecast for where you are, not the nearest reporting station. Locally the Weather Channel can predict highs (at the airport) that are as much as 10 degrees warmer, or colder, depending on what is happening (the airport is miles inland, I'm looking at seawater).

Given that, have you tried NOAA-Weather Free (for Android)

While i'm at home, i use an app for a local tv station

I own a landscape service and this time of year we are doing snow removal. I watch the weather like a hawk...the nationals and the locals, and while no one is perfect, I like Accuweather.com the best. And there is an Accuweather app. Give it a shot.

Ditto for me too. I use accuweather pro and NOAA.GOV. I combined the both of them and get my own forecast.

I usually use (in)accuweather on my 'droid :)

Seriously.. What I use the most is RadarNOW on the droid and
NOAA Combined Radar Map

On the computer.. I track the storm,, Which just arrived here where I am parked (Medium rain at the moment, no wind to speak of been expecting it all day)

When the man upstairs need a belly laugh - he watches our weather forecasts.

Sometimes the weather is very easy to predict. Sometimes is it incredibly difficult to predict.

A one degree difference can be the difference between a cold rain and a major ice storm.

Weather forecasting is also less accurate the farther out the prediction goes. I'm always wanting to know what the forecast is for the next 8-12 days. I find Intellicast seems to be best, but I always cross check with NOAA and Accuweather.

I understand a forecast a week out is an educated guess in a ballpark. Weather can change.

I'm also pretty good at watching fronts, winds aloft, etc - and making my own guesses.

As we say in Texas - we have four season - Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall - sometimes in the same day.

unless one app says it's gonna be clear while the other claims it's gonna rain I don't see where it makes a great deal of difference. I personally can't tell the difference between 55-deg f and 58-deg f. all I need is a general idea of what's gonna happen. if I need a detailed forecast before flying then i'll get a specific aviation forecast but otherwise the weather channel app is as good as any.

I find the forcasts for Weatherbug are awful on my Samsung. Whatever I had on my Droid was pretty good. As mentioned above, the best are the local TV apps.

I use Weather Underground's app on my smart phone. I've found them to be quite accurate.
