ACER netbook to desk top monitor
I have a ACER netbook windows 7 with a 11" screen and I hooked it up to my 20" monitor with a HDMI cable and it works good, but my netbooks screen stays on too, is this normal? Thanks in advance. Jay

XP WILL still be "usable" after April 2014, it WILL still FUNCTION.
What will happen after April of 2014 is MS will no longer be issuing MINOR security patches and any "enhancements" or "hot fixes". If there is a MAJOR security "hole" they may decide to issue and update.
XP will still be alive and going for many years since there are companies still using it and will be for a long, long time after MS drops support.
Heck, I still have a PC laying around with 98SE on it and it still works and I would still use it for Internet stuff but you can't get newer browsers to run on it.
I know that XP will still work but you loose your protection when you do banking, or other things on the internet. Their is enough problems on the net without updated security. I have this netbook with windows 7 sitting around not being used so I will use it and buy a tablet to use away from home.
Most MS patches really do not affect things like banking or personal info. Basically the patches are to fix "security holes" IF some hacker managed to find that hole, then write code for it then inserted that code into your banks website.
Plus when you connect to a bank site it is a secure hhtps connection which basically encrypts all data between the bank and your PC (no one can "eves drop").
All said you will have an extremely small remote chance of having your baking info being stolen.
Besides, no matter how much patching is done, as long as you are willing to go out on the wobbly web you are always "risking" your PC.
In other words even with the newest OS with all the latest patches you are no better off than if you were running say W98SE as long as you are on the wobbly web..
I have personally had a up to date well patched PC with all the latest AV definitions which is behind a very high security firewall crumble into a smoldering doorstop from a drive by malware attack on a pretty much safe website.
You are only kidding yourself if you think security patches will prevent anything from happening...
