Usage is not necessary, but it is necessary to have power and be hooked to the satellite antenna. I keep a receiver in the RV, and for years, every time we went camping I had to call to reactivate the receiver. When I installed a 50/30/20 amp pedestal at home, I also ran a coax from my home satellite antenna. Now, whenever I am parked at home, the receiver is hooked to the house antenna, and powered. I haven't had to call to reactivate the receiver in a couple of years.
Another point. If you have Genie, your home is probably wired SWM. If the receivers are earlier than D12 receivers, they won't be compatible with SWM. - sdianel_-acct_cExplorerYes, just call them with the receiver number and access card number from the receiver. They will add it and charge $6.00 per month "rental" Tell them it's the "RV" receiver and they will name it that so you can view it online and tell which one it is. Note: after you activate the receiver, if there is no usage or power to the receiver in 30 days you will need to reset it. You can reset it online.
