Alternative to Photoshop

You could downgrade Photoshop perhaps. Try Photoshop Elements, which is a somewhat stripped version of the main course of CS. If I remember correctly (lots and lots of handwaving), Adobe offers a trial version, so you can see if it works with your OS and with your needs.
