Anser DirecTV with DVR-24 and Genie

I am in my RV but stationary so have a dish on a pole outside. I have DVR-34 in living room and Genie in the bedroom for that TV. I'm going to start traveling and want the same set-up but with an Anser carryout. If I get SWM for the Anser can I still have the DVR-34 in the living room and the Genie in the bedroom working like they are now?

Also, I take it that ABC, etc are "local" - how would I get local channels as I drive throughout the western states? The DirecTV gal said just call in and change my ZIP code but I hear so many other things.

I'm a single gal and could sure use your help.

Thanks!!

Thanks so much - that is great information and really makes me feel good about all of this. I don't care that much about HD since my RV TVs aren't that big of a screen to really matter. Should I have my DTV programming changed to SD to save me a few $$...will it still work? You have been a wonderful help and have eased by stress.

You already receive the HD and SD channels with your current receiver. You will not be able to not pay for HD, you just won't receive the programming. You can go into the receiver setup menu, find Display and then Preferences. Right now your SD programming is hidden from the guide. Change that to Show both or hide HD and you will be able to view the SD channels.

  • Yes, if you add the SWM8 kit to the Anser you will be able to use your HR-34 (that's the Genie) and the second TV receiver which I am guessing is a C-31 or 41 mini-Genie. You will not be able to get any of the DirecTV HD programming with the Anser but you will get all of the DTV SD programming. If you will be traveling for a few months or more I would recommend that you sign up for the DirecTV DNS service and you will get the LA Network programming where ever you travel.
