IMO, the iPhone X was rushed to market, simply to mark the 10th anniversary of the iPhone. While it looks cool and has a few new features, what it doesn't have is more significant, in my opinion.
The original plan was NOT to lose the fingerprint reader, but to redesign it to be part of the display, instead of a separate button as it is now. Losing the fingerprint authentication makes unlocking the phone for certain uses more cumbersome. I firmly believe they left the feature out only because they could not get the technology to work in time for the release.
APPLE PAY for example...... With the iPhone 7 or 8, you simply tap the NFC reader with the phone while your finger is on the home button. DONE.
With the X, you have to double tap the side button, then show the phone your face to unlock, then tap the NFC reader.
I will wait for the XI or XII or whatever the numbering scheme will be, with hopes that they finally do improve the interface to the point where is is at least as easy as my iPhone 7.
