Apple Hacked!~

There is nothing that cannot be hacked as long as there is outside access. Hackers do not care about 3 times and out passwords.
What they get are the encrypted password files and then run that against data bases that compare against the known equivalent plain text. They don't even have to know what security encrypted it as others have encrypted / unencrypted millions of possible passwords.
Computers run for days doing nothing else.
It is unbelievable how often a server is put on a network and then unsecured and forgotten about. That is so often a point of access for hackers.

At one place I worked, there was a rule that I had to configure the AIX (a variant of UNIX on IBM hardware) logins to allow three times. Three wrong passwords, the account was locked forever... or until I logged in and unlocked it. So, what you describe is pretty much what I worked with, except the password was the same, and din't change every time.

What you had sounds a bit like SecurID. You entered a number from a device, plus a 4-8 digit PIN, and if one fat-fingered it more than once or twice, you were locked out for good.

SIPRNet and NIPRNet are US government internal networks, so they can have traffic communicating between sites that don't go over the Internet. NIPRNet is for unclassified stuff, SIPRNet is for the secret+ stuff.

I wonder about the concept of a "BIPRNet", run by either the US government, or perhaps a telco, and dedicated for business traffic that shouldn't be available on the Internet backbones. It would be a closed network with all connections pre-arranged in advance. On one hand, I do understand the government and privacy, but on the other hand, having a national network that runs on separate wires for crucial business transactions would add a lot of security.

As for Apple getting hacked, I'm glad this happened now. Come the next release of iOS, one can lock down their iPhone or iPad so it will not activate unless they enter in their iCloud account name and password. The bad guys having access to iCloud's userdata would mean they could be able to reset and activate stolen Apple products to sell.

mlts22 - I am not sure what you are speaking of, but... That sounds at least a little like something we had in our company in the olden days before the internet. You could use it 24/7, but there was hardware involved. If I was on the road and I wanted to gain access to my company's computers I could do so, but a code was required. It was a random number generator that gave me and the company's computers the same rather complex number simultaneously. If I did not input that exact number ASAP, I was denied. Get denied again, and you were SOL. Not user friendly to say the least.

Maybe user friendly and secure just do not go together, even for the pros like Apple.

I keep waiting for businesses to make something like NIPRNet or SIPRNet designed from the ground up for security, and not connected to the Internet in any way, perhaps with a central authority that only allows computer "A" from Acme to contact computer "B" from Ajax, only from 9-5, on weekdays. If compromised, it would be easy to control because of the limited connections allowed by the central ISP.

I beginning to think this thread belongs more in ATC? It's more about privacy and the IRS, than about hacking Apple servers?

When you see how young some of these hackers are it's just a matter of time, actually a relatively short period of time, that as these same kids get older they will be able to do more and bigger.

Saw a program on Nova showing the stats on how many mothers are using electronics as baby sitters. They then took little babies that could barely crawl and put them in a room with an Ipad on the floor on one side and the mother on the other.........every kid crawled to the iPad. :R

This generation of kids will be cracking into the Kremlin before they can talk!

I've watched interviews of numerous people who have filed their taxes and were rejected because someone had 'already filed them in their name'! Takes them eons to get it straightened out and IRS says it's epidemic.


Check this out just how EASY it is to get your info and file taxes with it. A computer geeky 3rd grader could do it! They ping the info, if it works their home free and if it doesn't know one knows they did it.:R

Please show where that is stated in the IRS code or AHCA code, I am interested in reading about this and would only like to see the facts so I can make up my own mind. Please don't quote or send links to pundits from either side that like to twist the message. Like I said, I am interested in the facts and did a search and only came up with opinions, none linking back to facts.
