- TurnThePageExplorerAsus has a great reputation. I've owned several of their motherboards over the decades. They've been good. I also have one of those EeePC netbooks that has been very reliable. But...
I recently recommended one to my brother who reported back that the case was very flimsy and consequently he's been getting errors. He returned it. I just bought one of their cheaper models and it goes into sleep mode if I rest my left wrist on it while typing. Once again a flimsy case. Mine is in for warranty repair right now. That said, I have a year old high end Asus at work that has been flawless. It's been a great computer. I've also read various reports about Asus recently having quality issues. This may be one of those "You get what you pay for" things. - Canuck_TravelleExplorerAsus is good, there are other brands I like as well, I have a Sager, like it.
I would get an Intel processor, preferable an Intel Series 7. Depends what you are using it for but I like a Terabyte of storage, 8 Gb of Random Memory and if you are older (like me) you might like the 17" display, also lots of USB connections like 4 or more.
Try to get the seller to include office in there if you can.
Good luck! - Gonecamping444ExplorerThanks lovedays,I do need a new router.
- LovedaysExplorerWhile we're on the subject I recommend an ASUS wireless router the next time you need one. Sorry, I know you asked about laptops but I bought one when I started having problems with my Linksys router and it's the best router I've ever had.
I bought an ASUS laptop for my daughter for college. I've never touched it but she loves it. - Gonecamping444ExplorerThanks,Looks like a good laptop.
- amxpressExplorerI have an Asus laptop as does my SIL.
I am computer ignorant but my laptop is slow, I have an AMD dual core processor.
My SIL has a quad core processor and his is lightning fast.
At least that's what he told me. - 1492ModeratorSquare Trade, an after market service company, rated Asus laptops #1 in reliability. Their motherboards have also traditionally been manufactured by the same company that makes motherboards for Apple.
- Gonecamping444Explorerthanks for all the info.
- RoyBExplorer III needed a good laptop for my office away from home as well as support for my photo hobby and Ham Radio emergency comms work I like to do...
I went with the M90 DELL WORKSHOP laptop computer that is supported by the docking station where all of the keyboard, speakers, dual monitors, input/output support devices for Radio Comms, Additional portable hard drives, etc. My RV setup is almost an exact duplicate of my house setup... I found some great deals purchasing the DEL WORKHOUSE units from OFF-LEASE purchases... The two I picked up still had DELL Warranty left on them and was fully loaded with software and were in the $450-$500 range... The DELL M90 is now outdated of course but still working great for me. The M90 laptop is replaced with the Precision Mobile Workstation Inspiron-M-6000 series laptops and currently available through the OFF-LEASE sales.
I can do my ACAD drawings, photo workshops, chatting with kids, doing my bank bill payments, surfing the internet etc, in my RV setup just like I do at home. There is very little difference... Just pull the laptop from the house and plug into the docking station setup in the RV setup. When i get back home just plug the Laptop back into the home setup. Never miss a beat... I use Verizon MIFI Hot Spot WIFI for all of my mobile devices. The coverage area is outstanding with VERIZON and we have internet connection anywhere we have Verizon Cell Phone service. The Verizon MIFI is a stand alone unit and does not tie-up our cellphone.
This setup has worked out great for us over the years...
Just food for thought since you are in the thinking process about what to setup in your RV...
Roy Ken - NCWriterExplorerWe're currently using an Asus laptop and desktop. Very satisfied and very good price.
