background programs
When I double click a desktop item I have other tabs try to open ,such as website suggestions (2 of those) and load extensions..Any idea how those can be stopped from coming up??

Sounds like you have some malware installed. Run Malwarebytes or a similar reputable anti-malware program. You might also check to see if you have any suspect toolbars installed on your browsers.
