Basic Talk for $10/mo from WM

I just gave up our landline this week and went with MagicJack Plus. WalMart has dropped the price to $49.95. Installed quickly and voice quality is excellent. I have not had one telemarketing call since I installed it; I was getting around five unwanted calls per day with the landline, despite being on the DNC list. DISCLAIMER: I am not an agent for MagicJack, just a satisfied customer. Your experience may be different.

I believe Verizon Home Connect uses a dedicated mobile data connection, whereas, Basic Talk requires a separate net connection.

What if you need a land line to get on the net? How well does magic jack work then?

X2. The Magi Jack works well and is the cheapest service out there hands down.

Check your net connection for VoIP suitability. Speed is generally not the issue. VoIP generally requires about 1/5 or less the bandwidth of most streaming videos. The real issues are latency, its associated variations called jitter, and packet loss which will most likely effect your line connection quality more so than speed.

You can use an online service such as myspeed.visualware.com. Requires Java enabled in your browser.

VOIP is a poor choice for RV use. One would need high speed internet access. If that was through a cellphone service one would be better served by just using a cellphone.
