Best GPS for RV

I have not come across the "low bridge" situation, but have come across a weight restriction.

Recently, on a trip from home to New Hill, NC, the logical route would take us on New Hill - Olive Chapel Rd. That road has a weight restriction of 3 tons; not good for a vehicle with a 10-ton real axel. Our Dezl 560 routed around that road, when I asked it for a route form home to the New Hill address.

Since it automatically routes around weight restrictions, I don't see why it wouldn't route around height restrictions. That said, I'm not going to trust it to know all of the places height might be an issue. One should till be responsible for observing signage.

We also have the Garmin Nuvi 465t and like the fact that we can switch to truck mode when driving the motor home and with our height and weight. And then we can switch to car mode when we are using it it the toad. As full timers and almost always traveling in new-to-us places, we wouldn't be with out it. We really can't compare ours to any others, but we would note that there are frustrations. Sometimes addresses just don't match up to your gps location as you learn as you have just blown by them with no good place to turn around. Sometimes when you first are taking off, it just doesn't seem to tell you how to make the very first move. At times it is recalculating when you know you are on the right road only to recalculate again back to where you are which can be a bit disconcerting. But the pros definitely outweigh the cons.

I use the Garmin dezl-lmt 560 does everthing including height. Has junction veiw also. You can pick between truck,rv,pedistrian & auto. Tried the one from camping world and returned it,seemed clunky and to big for trucks windshield to me and I've already owned garmin so thats what was comfortable to me.

I'm liking my new RM 7710 more every day as I learn all the features. I think I will learn to live with the horrible display to have all the other features. :B

We also have the Rand Macnally 7710 and have been very pleased with it. This is our first year of Rving so alot of this is new to us. Our was a gift so we did not pick it out. You enter all the info about you rv or camper/tv and it plans the routes accordingly. The first couple of times we used it we kind of knew the route we usually take and the gps gave us different directions. The nice part about it was it took us on roads the we were very comfortable towing our 5er behind us. It also has all the Woodall listings as well as rv service centers, rest stops......JMO

I replaced my Garmin Nuvi 1450 with the RAnd mcnally 7710 so I could have the ability to program for height restrictions... The 7710 works O.K., but during first 4 months travelling, I have decided I prefer the Garmin overall. The screen resolution is better on the Garmin, and it seems to have more of the POI's that I use. It seems more user friendly as well. I have begun to use the Rand McNally when towing, but stash it and pull out the Garmin for everything else once the 5vr is parked. I've yet to need the height feature, so I may just pitch the Rand and stick with the Garmin.
