Doubt whether the range is the issue. It is more apt to be the sheeting on the garage. Mine has metal and it blocks the signal. I have problems with garage door opener as well The metal blocks the signal.
I am going to extend the garage door opener antenna via an insulator to the exterior of garage. Not sure if wrapping a small copper wire around the remote unit , extending out side would induce the signal sufficiently to increase the signal
I would look for a remote sensor that has an external antenna connection.
Another way is to mount the transmitter on the outside of the garage with the probe going inside.
