Bill,need help! Carryout G2+

We currently have a DTV setup with two R16-500 SD DVRs, operating in SWM mode. I received a Carryout G2+ for my birthday. Have a few questions. Can it operate the two dvrs, using both tuners in each? If so, what are the proper settings? Apparently the G2+ does not support SWM, so does that mean two cables from 'dish' to the trailer are required? Lastly, the G2+ directions say to use the supplied 25' cable, is that the limit on cabling?

Had no luck trying to set up first time.

Thanks for any help you can give.

  • Ah, you were talking about the power supply for the Winegard antenna plus the Power inserter for the DTV hardware. Sorry. It's not at all complicated as the DTV power inserter just sits right there behind the receiver and plugs into the same outlet. Pretty simple really.
  • If you look at the Winegard SWM diagram which you attached, it uses both the PI29 inserter AND the one included with the G2+. I connected this way and it worked perfectly.
  • No, you would never use 2 power inserters! You use the PI29 for the SWM8 setup and you use the PI25 at home. They are not interchangeable and not used in combination.
  • Thanks. This setup is more complicated (two power inserters?) but I'll give it a try. Have all the pieces.

If you add the SWM8 hardware to your G2+ you should be able to use both DVR's. I don't believe the R16 required SWM so you could also use 1 R16 using the 2 available outputs (main output must go to tuner 1) or you might be able to run both as single tuner receivers using 1 output to each receiver.

Here's the SWM8 guide. Be sure to get the PI29 power inserter.

I doubt the 25' is the max but I have never played with one. The better quality coax you use the better your chances would be of getting a longer run.
