If your house is wired for LAN you can just plug the old router into one of those at the other end of the house and use it as an access point. IF that doesn't work search for an access point they're not too expensive and will do what you need.
Honestly, I've found the router/modem combinations to be pretty crappy so I'm always just used a decent router with whatever the cable company brings me as a modem.
