signal boost

When we travel, we take a lap top along, using a Virgin Mobile USB air card. It connects via the Sprint Network towers. We will be in a South Carolina State Park soon, for three months, which is far enough away from cell towers to allow us only a weak signal for both our lap top and cell phones. Is there a way to boost the signal for both the cell phones and lap top?

  • Which South Carolina State Park? I am on the Myrtle Beach State Park wifi right now. It is probably the best wifi I have had at a campground. My clock shows 121 MBPS. We also had it at Huntington Beach last week and Hunting Island Last year.
  • There are several different cell signal amplifier repeater/boosters available, at variety of prices. Try a Google search "cell phone booster". Right now, the "WeBoost" (formerly Wilson) products are the most commonly used, but new products are coming along that fully meet the new FCC requirements and promise a better signal.
  • I just updated an article on my web site (Forest River Cherokee 19RR) about adding an external antenna on an extendable pole to connect to far away cell towers. the details are at the end of the article.

  • When we traveled FT we had a Wilson Electronics antenna that we used to boost signals with.
IF we could get a 'tower' on cell phone the antenna would allow us to get 2 bars at least.

Antenna was on a pole that I attached to ladder and ran cable in thru rear window. We then had adapters that connected to antenna cable and allowed us to plug into cell phone external antenna plug and one that allow us to plug into air card external antenna plug.

BUT that is old school .............

I'm sure more tech savvy folks will info you about modems, tethering, jetpacking or whatever is the hot ticket now
