For those of us who find ads that follow you wherever you surf to be a bit creepy, this might the the ticket.
It sounds more like a malware driven symptom than a tracking issue with browsers, search engines, etc. I am a Google world person like a poster up the way and so am certainly tracked to get their application benefits but don't have any problem with pop-up adds. I do use the Adblock Chrome extension which might also be a factor.
I just find it curious how some have this problem and others do not and it seems to me the wrong culprits are being blamed. Browser toolbars, for example, are one category of malware I would suspect.
