Browser Experimentation

Out of curiosity, I’ve been experimenting with various browsers. My usual browser is Edge, which I find quite satisfactory I’ve also tried Opera, Vivaldi, Brave, Comodo Dragon, Firefox Quantum, Yandex, and others, but I always come back to Edge...after all, It doesn’t give me a problem. As an exception, I also use Chrome on occasion. I find I need Chrome when using my Bank of America website. Interestingly, Neither Edge nor Firefox works on the ‘Shop Safe’ section of that website. It just doesn’t load properly. Only Chrome works. Don’t know why? At any rate, with the exception of that one website, I’ll continue with Edge. I won’t experiment with other browsers, at least for now, unless something really radically new comes along.

Perhaps some of you would like to comment on your browser’s qualities or likes, dislikes.
  • I mostly use Safari as I am now using iPhone or iPad for just about everything. Anytime I do use my Windows PC, I still use Explorer and it does everything that I need it to do.
  • Duck Duck Go, the search engine that does not track your searches, has just released a new Duck Duck Go browser that downloaded this morning. It's main claim to fame is that it not only does not allow tracking cookies and blocks contacts to all the web sites that do track you across the web, it also gives you a grade on each web site as to how they are doing in regards to minding your privacy.

It's available for iOS, but not yet for Mac. Not sure about Android and Windows, but if not yet, they've promised soon. I've been using it this morning on my iPad and iPhone, and so far it seems to work well, although there is some content blocked, obviously.

One other interesting feature: a single click will completely wipe your browser history and all cookies. For those of us who find ads that follow you wherever you surf to be a bit creepy, this might the the ticket.
  • I pretty much have sold my soul to Google, and use Chrome nearly exclusively, other than website testing. My reason is I go from iPad to laptop to desktop and they all sync with each other.

I'm pretty happy with it. I keep Firefox as a backup browser, but that's it.

Try the new Firefox Quantum browser, Eubank, if you're curious. I've been trying it for a while. It seems pretty good, although I use Edge the majority of time since I'm used to it.

Yep, I've retained both Chrome and Firefox Quantum on my PC, besides Edge, since I'm still experimenting with the new Firefox, and have to admit I do like it. I keep Chrome for the reasons I stated in my post, but use Edge 99% of the time. In reality, all of the browsers I've tested had their plusses and minuses, but it's an individual's choice as to which will be a favorite. In my case, I see no reason to ditch Edge. If it becomes a problem, I'll do it then.
  • I use chrome almost exclusively. I use Edge a little now and then. Early on there was a compatibility issue with Edge and Lastpass, not so now. For some reason Google seems to iron out compatibility issues faster than Microsoft. I tried many of the other browsers, but got the feeling of jack of all trades and master of none, so I'm sticking with Chrome and trying to learn it well.

  • I use Edge, FireFox, IE, and Chrome. All have different settings and cookies / history settings too. I don't have any issues on RV.net with any of them, except the occasional "I am not a robot".... which happens far too often.

The web sites I visit drive which computer and browser I use. Yes, I have access to several computers and Iphones.
