Camping world prices skyrocketing.

I previously complimented CW on finally bringing their prices down and in line with the competition.

I even bought more stuff there then I had in years.

Now it seems it has now they swung the other way. The prices soared.

Stopped in to get some oil to change my generator oil. $14 a quart. WOW. I ended getting it at Cummins and paid, $4 a quart. I ended up with a quart of oil and filer for less then the price of one quart of oil at CW. They even informed me that CW gets their Onan oil from them. Even at retail, a $10 mark up?

I also looked at a Progressive industries EMS, they are $100+ over all other competition. Their "regular" price is higher then the MSRP, and the "ONLINE ONLY" sales price is just a few dollars under the MSRP.

I notice the outrageous prices when I got the 50th anniversary sale catalog. Just insane and thank goodness for Amazon and others who are competitive.

Just a heads up to be smart shoppers.
  • We went to the Little Rock store this past Saturday and the place was so crowded we could not find a place to park. As long as they have that kind of business they will continue with their current business plan. I can't say that I blame them, do what works. I don't judge how others run their business. If it works for me I buy there, if it don't then I buy somewhere else. We all have choices on where to spend our money.

On another subject, the reason we were there was to look at a trailer we saw online that they had in stock. It was a Rockwood with the floor plan we are looking for. After checking it out the sales manager gave us what he said was his best price. When I showed him the same trailer online for $3000 less he said that is a Flagstaff, this is a Rockwood. He said apples and oranges. He then gave me a brochure showing how the Rockwood was built. I went out to the car and showed him the Flagstaff brochure with the same pictures and tried to explain to him that they are like Chevy and GMC. He still wanted to tell me how the Rockwood was so much better than the Flagstaff. I drove 20 miles down the road and ordered the exact trailer in a Flagstaff with several more options and way less money.

Like I said, we all have options and can spend our money where we chose.

I have an aquaintence who will only go to Camping World for service, parts or accessories. His reasoning: They are the biggest so they must be the best. He puts with long waits for service and all the other "stuff" from CW.
As long as there are people who think like this CW will continue to grow and prosper.
CW has a high overhead because of their size and location, they have to pay for that somehow.

This is my point in another thread. As long as there are uneducated buyers. Places with names like Camping World will continue.

    Good reminder.

CW will charge whatever the market will bear.
As long as their volume stays up, the prices will not come down.
  • The digital age and the internet allows us to easily comparison shop, and the many ecommerce stores now provide easy access to many different products. No longer do we have to just shop at speciality shops. Camping World is not the only source for camping and RV related products. I buy where it is the cheapest and/or most convenient. Camping World rarely meets those qualifications for me but when it does, I buy from them.
  • Yeah we gave up shopping there to once we saw the prices.

They are so high it's crazy

We use Amazon, eBay, and Walmart.com and the prices are so much better and you can get two shipping with Amazon and still be cheaper than the store and quick than ordering online from them as well.

Highway robbery since they know so pour sap will pay it.
